Anyone with an older car - 10 years old or more - knows it costs money, and a degree of passion to keep it on the road. Parts slowly but inevitably become harder to find and more expensive to buy. Full restorations require an even larger, more admirable commitment.
The Peugeot 205 GTI is by no means as old as some other ‘classics’, but with most of them being around 20 years old, each car requires a degree of dedication to maintain. All 205 owners have this dedication, with many proud owners doing the majority of servicing, repair or enhancement (cosmetic and/or performance) themselves.

To reach this self-sufficiency, whether someone’s car is a daily driver (yes: many of us use them every day), or a dedicated track, rally, hill-climb, sprint or other motorsport ‘weapon’, a thriving and enthusiastic community has developed.
The 205 like other ‘classic’ car communities, has been helped by the advent of the internet. This has allowed the swift and friendly passage and sharing of information through car forums such as these in the UK, Holland and Poland. This has meant sourcing components and learning techniques has been made so much easier for the 205 GTI fans, who range from 18 to over 50 years old.

Across the regions in the various countries, people who would have never known each other have become associated through a shared passion - a passion of driving a highly responsive, light, charismatic and satisfying ‘hot hatch’.
‘Meets’ and other social events are organised, and parts can be sourced which may no longer be available through main Peugeot dealers, because their ability to support logistically a car a quarter of a century old dwindles, as it becomes less of a focus for their core business.
Thankfully several of the Peugeot /Citroen group cars share interchangeable parts, which means the community and support base is actually larger than just 205s. Parts from the Citroen Xsara and other Peugeot models such as the 309, 405, 306 and 406 (amongst others), are either direct 'as orginal' replacements, or offer some handling or performance improvement.

These parts, both standard and upgraded for even better performance, help this active fan base keep these stunning little cars running and on the road, rewarding their owners every day. Maintenance and modification techniques are shared, and a spirit of ownership and being part of this 205 community gives 205 GTI owners a true sense of pride.
It’s this sense of pride and reward which is only really understood by a dedicated car enthusiast. The enthusiasm for driving that the 205 GTI brings is something we all share.
Happy 25th anniversary Peugeot 205.
The fans.
